TunClim - 1D thermal solver
The software TunClim developed by GESTE Engineering allows to compute, the short- and long-term evolution of the air temperature and humidity inside of a tunnel network, whilst also taking into account the evolution of the rock temperature.
TunClim solves the equations of the mass and energy transport with the integration of specific source terms for the modelling of various thermal effects: heat sources distributed along the tunnels introduced by stationary installations; heat sources bound to the traffic of trains; thermal effects bound to the humidity and water infiltrations; thermal exchange with the tunnel walls. TunClim also permits to consider the effect of possible tunnel cooling systems as well as the effect of air injection by natural or forced ventilation shafts.
As output, TunClim provides the evolution of the temperature and the humidity along the network of tunnels.
The software was lately used for the computation of the temperature and humidity evolution inside the tunnels of the new railway link Lyons-Turin (LTF project). It also served for the dimensioning of the tunnel cooling system.
