Born in 1999The consulting and engineering office was set up in 1999, as a start-up of the Swiss Federal Institute of Lausanne (EPFL). Its initial name is GESTE, acronym of Group of Groupe d'Étude de Systèmes de Transport dans leur Environnement (Group for Study Transport systems in their Environment). GESTE started its business by offering engineering and consulting services regarding public transport. The company was specially engaged in the management of the Swissmetro project and in the promotion of technological innovation according to a multidisciplinary and systemic approach Until the end of 2001, the management and the development of the Swissmetro project were the main activities of GESTE’s engineers.
Growth and maturityIn 2001, the consulting and engineering office transformed its juridical structure into a limited company and took the name of GESTE Engineering SA. To face the difficulties of financing the Swissmetro project in 2002, GESTE Engineering expanded its business by proposing consulting services in the following fields: energy, environment, infrastructures, safety, telematics, and transport. Since October 2008, GESTE Engineering is also present in German-speaking region of Switzerland thanks to the opening of an office in Bern. In 2010, after the celebration of its first 10th birthday, the company structure is reorganised in 6 Business Units in order to face new challenges and continue to extend the activity domain:
