Risk, Safety & RAMS

We perform risk analyses, RAMS studies and safety concepts of complex systems involving people, infrastructures and equipment. Based on a global, systemic and transdisciplinary approach, we ensure an effective risk management integrating appropriate preventive measures.

A system oriented approach...

Generally intended to respond to a specific problem, the safety study is too often restricted to a specific hazard (e.g. fire simulation) or to the management of specific events (e.g. emergency plan). While safety studies of this type are key components of the risk analysis, they cannot be considered as stand-alone. Effective risk management involves the selection of appropriate preventive measures in terms of cost-benefit. For this, knowledge of the specific sources of hazards alone is not sufficient. It is also necessary to know the possible interactions between the various hazards and their relative "weight" with respect to the overall risk level. For this reason, the safety study must above all be based on a global systemic approach.

A preventive approach...

In terms of both cost and efficiency, preventive safety measures outdo by far palliative measures. The methodology applied by GESTE is thus oriented towards prospective risk analysis, which tends to integrate safety concepts at the early design stage of a system (intrinsic safety).

A relevant approach...

Our current experience shows that this approach is very much in line with normative approaches such as the RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety) standard. These procedures are progressively becoming, through legislation, the mandatory development method for all large-scale projects.
